Reviews about Downeast Home Appliance Center
- ★ ★ ★ ★ ★June 15, 2020, by Erica JohansonI just got my gas-powered clothes dryer replaced through Downeast. I want to preface this by saying that, before our dryer broke, we tried six months ago to get it replaced together with our washer through a big box store. But the box store through which we ordered would not remove or install a gas dryer. They required us instead to have a gas technician present at removal and at installation to get the job done. Because the box store would only promise delivery within a four-hour window, we were left with no option to get the removal and installation done in one trip. At a loss for what to do, we waited until we had no other option. Our dryer finally broke for good on Friday night. I called Downeast Saturday morning thinking that they might have a better option than the box store, even though I anticipated they might be more expensive. It turns out they did have a better option, and yet it wasn't more expensive. They made an appointment to remove my old dryer and install my new dryer between 1 pm and 3 pm on Monday. I specifically asked whether they could install and remove a gas dryer and they promised to have a technician capable of doing so on the team. A team of 3 arrived shortly after 1 PM today (Monday) with a gas dryer, which they installed after removing my old gas dryer for a removal / install fee of $90. I was so impressed with the team that showed up. Prior to the dryer finally breaking, we had been having trouble for years with getting our clothes dry enough. The team diagnosed the problems for me (a combination of having a PVC vent pipe, which attracts lint and therefore tends to clog up, and a broken outside vent flap, which lets moisture in, creating further lint clogging). *At no extra charge* they installed some new non-PVC flexible venting for the dryer, which they estimated would last for about a year. They also provided a number for me to call to get a fixed metal pipe and new vent flap installed at some later date when my budget allows. They also did not balk when, after pulling out my old gas dryer, the gas shut-off valve was not visible. They checked outside the house and then looked around the basement trying to trace it. It turns out this valve had been covered over by sheetrock behind the dryer. They worked with me to pull the sheetrock free to uncover the gas shut-off valve, and they removed the old PVC pipe and the broken sheetrock *at no extra charge*.
